Marimekko

Project
Marimekko is a Finnish lifestyle design company renowned for its original prints and colours.
Melansirkka’s collection was designed with the aim of creating a character for Marimekko to to enrich the company’s product range. We created a collection which told a story designing each product independently instead of spreading a fixed pattern on each piece.

Melansirkka is an insect which is born out of an eggplant.
It lives on the plant, feeds on grass juices and spends the day playing with worms, hopping and flying…

Melansirkka’s name comes from the Italian word for eggplant, melanzane, and the Finnish word for grasshopper, which is heinäsirkka, so… Melansirkka!

The products designed within this collection covered kitchen, bedding, bags and clothing.
Melansirkka designs were printed on mugs, fabric, duvet covers, pillows, bags, a dress and 16 different T-shirts prints.
